MRC-5

I would like to know if DMEM, high or low glucose, is a suitable medium for MRC-5 fibroblast cell line, being EMEM the recomended medium. Thank you!

It really depends upon where you purchased the cell line from. We recommend here at ECACC, the use of EMEM, because the cell line was originally deposited in this medium. This does not necessarily mean that the cells will not grow in an alternative such as DMEM.

Since you did not provide me with any information about your research area, I hope that the two papers I have identified below are of some use.

Optimization of microcarrier cell culture process for the inactivated enterovirus type 71 vaccine development. Vaccine. 2004 Sep 28;22(29-30):3858-64.

A reference map of human lung MRC-5 fibroblast proteins using immobilized pH gradient-isoelectric focusing-based two-dimensional electrophoresis. Proteomics. 2001 Jun;1(6):787-94.

I hope this helps.
