The Diabetes UK Warren Repositories for types 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus provide a major resource for researchers around the world.
The Diabetes UK Type 1 Diabetes Warren Collection is the largest single collection of type 1 diabetes multiplex families in the world, consisting of over 1600 individuals, representing more than 400 families. For inclusion families must consist of two living parents and at least two children with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, at least one of which must have been diagnosed before the age of seventeen
The Diabetes UK Type 2 Diabetes Warren Collection was established in 1996 and performed by six centres across the UK. The complete collection consists of over 850 sibling pairs, where at least one sibling has type 2 diabetes.
For inclusion in either collection families must be of Caucasian ethnicity and of European decent.
ECACC, with support from Diabetes UK, has now made available genomic DNA from 576 affected individuals from each of these collections, organized into six panels per collection for the customer's convenience. Each panel consists of 2mg of DNA at a concentration of 100ng/m l from each of 96 unrelated individuals
Information concerning age at diagnosis and HLA profile for each sample from the Warren 1 collection is available from ECACC on request, and more information, including genotype data can be found at www-gene.cimr.cam.ac.uk/todd.
DNA from the entire collection is also available from ECACC, and can be supplied in customer specified combinations and formats. Contact ECACC for more details.
