A cryopreserved, well characterised and authenticated Master Cell Bank of known provenance, manufactured in a closely controlled manner, is an essential platform for any scientific study, test system or manufacturing operation that involves cell culture. The use of a high quality Master Cell Bank is the prime means for controlling what is potentially a major source of variation in a cell culture system. The source cell line used for such a Master Bank can be provided by the client or taken from our own, authenticated cell stocks. Although ECACC is not a licensed GMP facility, High Specification Master Cell Banks are controlled and documented to a standard that would make them suitable starting material for GMP process development.
