Air CAMR is less than 2 hours drive from Heathrow and Gatwick airports, about 45 minutes from Southampton airport, and 1 hour from Bournemouth airport. Rail Andover railway station is about 30 minutes from Health Protection Agency by taxi and Salisbury railway station is about 20 minutes by taxi. On arrival On arrival at Porton Down, please proceed along Manor Farm Road and at the top of the rise, turn left onto the Health Protection Agency main site.
On arrival at Health Protection Agency, you should report to the Gatehouse, where you will be asked to sign the visitors book and issued with an identity pass. You will then be given directions and your host contacted. On arrival at the main building entrance, you should report to reception, where you will be collected by your host. Please note that visitors are to be escorted at all times. Parking If you arrive by car please park in the area to which you are directed. A vehicle pass should be prominently displayed inside the car. Do not park within 25m of any building. Those driving must observe the highway code at all times on the Health Protection Agency site. There is a maximum speed limit of 20mph in force. Security CCTV with remote recording is used on the site. vehicles and bags may be searched. Contractors Contractors arriving at the site should report to the Gatehouse on arrival. If appropriate, a site induction may be required for safety purposes and this will be arranged before the issue of a contractors pass. If a site induction pass is not held, contractors must be escorted at all times. If you already hold a site induction pass, you will be issued with an identity pass which must be worn visibly at all times. You will then be given directions and your host contacted. All passes remain the property of Health Protection Agency and must be returned on request. Visitors passes must be returned on departure. Passes must be worn visibly at all times. VISITORS ARE SEEN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. THOSE ARRIVING WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT MAY BE TURNED AWAY. Health and Safety All visitors are required to comply with all restrictions and warning signs, for their own safety and that of others. First aid can be arranged by your host. Help can be summoned by dialling the site emergency number, 444. All visitors must: - have a valid appointment;
- sign the visitors book;
- comply with the health and safety procedures and with Health Protection Agency security requirements;
- wear their pass in a prominent position where it can be seen at all times;
- observe any instructions given with regards to access.
Restricted Areas The nature of some of the work conducted at Health Protection Agency means that access restrictions are in force in some areas. Please observe these at all times. Do not enter any laboratories unless authorised to do so by your host. You may not, without specific authority: - Bring any animals on site
- Enter laboratories
- Use mobile phones or CB radios (please note that mobile phones are totally forbidden in some areas)
- Bring cameras on site
- Bring explosives, firearms or any other weapons onto the CAMR site
- Bring any form of radiation on site
- Smoke, except in designated areas
You must not bring controlled drugs, alcohol or other illegal substances onto the Health Protection Agency site. |
